STREET HOCKEY
ADULT BALL HOCKEY
Adult Co-Ed Ball Hockey is a great way to enjoy the sport without needing a lot of equipment.
A variation of the sport where all you need is a stick and some sturdy shoes and you're ready to place! No ice, no skates needed.
Ball Hockey cuts out a lot of the financial red-tape that gate-keeps sports like Hockey in non-traditional markets and brings the fun and joy of the sport down to everyone.
INLINE HOCKEY
Quickly growing in popularity throughout the USA, inline street hockey can be played in parking lots, on basketball or tennis courts, on dedicated outdoor rinks of various surfaces, to purpose built tile floor inline rinks playing with fast gliding pucks.
Using much of the same protective equipment used in ice hockey, over all, inline hockey is still far more affordable and accessible than playing ice hockey and SAWHL wants to insure that we make it as easy as possible for anyone to start playing inline here in the Valley.
Future Youth Hockey Program Hopes
We hope to bring recreational youth ball hockey to the Valley in the near future in partnership with NHL Streets. We want to make hockey accessible to youth not traditional exposed to the sport, remove the pressure and culture of elite youth athletic ambitions and travel leagues, and focused on kids just having fun and growing the love of the sport of hockey here in the Shenandoah Valley.
Our motto for youth players trying hockey for the first time is simple: Grab a stick, make new friends, go have fun!
We won't be able to pilot youth league play until we have a reliable pool of adults who can help with coaching, refereeing, or general setup of games.

Hockey Activities in the Community
Skate Laps at Gypsy Hill Park, Staunton
A few players have started skating laps at GHP, with a green biscuit practice puck, and a hockey stick, skating around while puck handling. There is currently no set typical day of the week this happens. Mostly last minute. This is organized in our GroupMe.
Don't need a hockey stick to join in, can just skate around. This is beginners friendly, family friendly, helmet and protection pads encouraged but not required.
*There are no official event hosts for this event, attendance by others not guaranteed, you may be the only person who shows up some weeks. Happens year Round, canceled for rain or snow, skate at your own risk.
Local Pickup Game
Pickup games or try hockey games are organized every other week or so on either Wednesday or Friday evenings, currently at the Montgomery Hall Park Basketball Courts in Staunton VA, 1000 Montgomery Ave, Staunton, VA 24401-3966
Games are organized by the group in our GroupMe messages so no one shows up to a empty court/rink to play no one. Announcements for those not in the group chat are also made in on the FB group page most of the time as well.
Local League Play - 4 - 6 Week Seasons (Hoping for a inaugural season - winter 2027)
We hope to build enough interest where 3-4 teams can be formed so we can host our inaugural adult co-ed ball hockey season in winter 2027. This would be a 4 - 6 week long season. More details for this will come as things get more organized.
